Artist Statement:

My project for the Choose Your Own Webventure assignment ended up taking a different direction than I originally planned for it to. I was going to do something related to cooking, but while I was in the beginning stages I just realized I wasn't as into it and it didn't incorporate enough "fantasy" into it. So, I decided to do a Halloween-y witch themed Webventure that involves a customer asking her to make a potion for them. I decided to do this purely because I thought the theme was fun and something I could get into. There is no deeper meaning or any hidden messages. You get the choice between a love potion and a shape shifting potion. The dialogue inserted between the characters is supposed to give you a hint as to why the character wanted the potion. Obviously, for the love potion they were hoping to give it to someone in order to make them fall in love with them. For the shape shifting potion, the character wanted to use it to sneak around as a smaller animal. Once you pick the type of potion, the character is encouraged to pick an "ingrediant." Depending on the situation, you are faced with two options. For the love potion, you get the option between a TON of roses and one singular piece of chocolate. To me, the large bundle of roses signified "more" so I decided to make that the "better" option. The single piece of chocolate works, but it definitely doesn't give you the outcome that the large bundle of roses did! Obviously these are subjective and love cannot only be proven through gifts, but I thought it would be fun and was a visual way to describe a good or "bad" option (more or less). The shape shifting potion features the choice of a mouse tail or a dragon talon ring. Since the character wanted to easily sneak around without having to be seen, the "mouse" option was the better option of the two of them. However, I did personally think that getting the ability to change into a dragon would still be cool, so I gave the dragon a cool-ish ending screen as well.

My secret "easter eggs" were within the bat GIF found on the first page, and the cat image found on the second page (both used in this section of writing). The bat leads to a cute video of bats and the cat leads to one of my favorite Halloween/cat themed games from Google! The game includes spells, cats, and witchy-Halloweeny themed things, so I decided to include it just for fun (everyone knows witches have to have a good familiar!). I enjoyed making the transparent images and turning them into GIFs. The movement of the images gives the webpage a more finished feeling to it. I also really liked designing the webpage layout with Wix, as it allows you to do a lot more a lot faster than you would be able to do with HTML and CSS if you don't really have the best web development skills. Although my project was simple, I think it turned out really well!

You can find this project in the "Choose Your Own Webventure" tab seen in the menu above. (You can also find it here.)

5 GIFs: The two books are set to only play once, refresh the page in order to see them play again. I will also mention that the pumpkin GIF is kind of hidden unless you mouse over the "Return to Home" button in my Webventure.

5 Images: This also includes the images used in the GIFs. I used Photoshop to make everything pictured transparent. I also used Photoshop to make the background image of the interior of the witch's house which I did by adding some light coming through the window and making it blurry.
