Artist Bio:

Hey, I'm Carson!

I am a Creative Technology and Design major who has been with the ATLAS program (TAM) at the University of Colorado Boulder for three and a half years now. I am mostly interested in all the pieces and parts that go into making a successful video game. I chose to dedicate my time at CU to learning the processes of both 3D and 2D art (as well as many other skills), which I will then go on to apply toward actual game production in the field.

I had some drawing, painting, and sketching skills that I previously practiced and learned in middle school and high school, but not many digital art skills had been practiced and perfected before applying to college. In high school I also had the opportunity to use a 3D printer and 3D model some very minor and easy objects. Now, being in ATLAS, I have learned many different ways to express my art in the digital and physical medium. I have polished my skills in 3D object model creation and printing, web development, and game development. I have also learned how to apply sound in an artistic way that would describe a mood or create an experience. I have practiced 2D mediums by sketching mock drawings, finalizing and coloring said drawings, expressing feeling through painting, incorporating typography into 2D designs, and photography.

A great unique perspective about me is that although I am an artist, I am also technically an engineer. Personally, I think I have been more "artist" than "engineer" my whole (personal) life and it is only till now that I am learning to appreciate and combine the two to create something amazing! Being an engineer allows me to experience art in a different light and try to figure out how I can practically apply art in my career or life. However, I also enjoy creating personal art that takes less of the engineering approach. In doing this art, I usually find subject matter that interests me and try to let it guide me in painting or drawing. In personal art, I allow myself to be slightly more creative than career art, so I get more opportunity to be abstract or completely out of the box. My two most dominant mediums are digital art and studio art, as I am constantly using digital art in career and studio art in my personal life. Finally, I create art just because I enjoy it and I think it is a great way to express my creativity to the world through a variety of mediums!
