ARTS4126: Brainstorm 3: Light Pollution

For this project we will be using projections that are going to be mapped on an item. From there, we will have to incorporate video mixing to create a performance piece of some kind.

People enjoying a projection mapped food experience!

After watching the videos in class, I decided that my inspiration would be the Shelves-Control video where there are multiple glass bottles that have projections of them being filled. I think for my project I would like to do something very similar where I will have a variety of glass objects that are being filled with various substances. I think it would be fun to maybe do a glass pitcher or cookie jar. Depending on the item that is chosen, I will then choose a video theme that goes along with it. If I end up doing smaller jars and glasses, I will probably try to incorporate liquids that could be seen as a beverage of some sorts.

Some bottles with different colored projection liquid.

But if I do something like a cookie jar, the only thing that would make sense is filling it with some kind of food item. Another idea I had was actually based on an installation of this project that I saw at the art show last year, which included some typography and a circular wooden object where they had projected a planet onto it. It would be really cool to play with a variety of shapes that match a flat surface. For example if I instead did a wooden square/cube, I could project many items that have a square silhouette (cardboard moving box, boxes of food, maybe a laptop, books, makeup pallets, photos, Rubiks cube, Minecraft blocks, etc.) while also having the opportunity to video-jockey between them on the Midi controller. Either way, I am excited to use a variety of imagery within my work that will be rotating through as the night goes on!
